Beginner Skateboard Lessons in Sydney

Never stepped on a board? Brilliant. That is my favourite place to start. My beginner skateboard lessons in Sydney have no silly questions, no showing off and no rushing: just patient, expert coaching that meets you exactly where you are.

Child safety

Safe for Children, Reassuring for Parents

Most beginners I teach are children, and their parents trust me with them. Here is what that trust rests on, so you do not have to go looking for it.

  • Working with Children CheckI hold a current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC), the clearance every person who works with children in New South Wales must have.
  • Check it yourself in a minuteAsk me for my WWC number and you can verify it directly on the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian website.
  • Helmets on, alwaysEvery student wears a helmet, and I recommend wrist guards and knee pads for beginners. If you do not have protective gear yet, let me know when you book and I will help you get sorted.
  • Parents are welcome to stayYou are welcome to stay and watch any lesson. We start on flat ground at walking pace, and nobody is pushed before they are ready.

Who Beginner Lessons Are For

๐Ÿง’

Children

Nervous six-year-olds and curious ten-year-olds alike. I keep the first sessions playful, safe and full of small wins so that confidence grows from the very first roll.

๐Ÿง‘

Teenagers

Whether you want to keep up with friends at the skatepark or learn properly from the start, we build solid fundamentals quickly and move on to the tricks you actually want.

๐Ÿง“

Adults

It is never too late. I have taught grown-ups finally ticking skateboarding off the bucket list (my oldest student is 65), and most are rolling by the end of the first lesson.

What You Will Learn

For over 16 years I have been turning wobbly first-timers into confident skaters. The path is always the same, and always at your own pace.

  • Stance, balance and how to stand on the board comfortably
  • Pushing, rolling and controlling your speed
  • Turning, carving and stopping safely, including how to fall without getting hurt
  • Your first ramps and, when you are ready, dropping in
  • Your first tricks, from tic-tacs and manuals to your first ollie
  • Safety first: helmet, knee and elbow pads and wrist guards for every lesson, and I hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Your First Steps on a Board

Get in touch

Send a message through the booking form with the beginner’s age and the days that suit you. No experience needed. Tell me you have never skated and I will take it from there.

2

Your first lesson

We meet at the skatepark, get you comfortable on the board and work through balance, pushing and stopping. You will be rolling by the end of the first session.

3

Build confidence

Book single lessons as you go, or save with a lesson package and progress steadily from rolling to turning, ramps and your first tricks.

Common Questions

Do I need a skateboard to start?

No. Bring your own if you have one, or let me know when you book and a board can be hired for the lesson, a good way to try skateboarding before buying.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing that lets you move freely and closed-toe shoes with good grip. A helmet, knee and elbow pads and wrist guards are required for every lesson; if you do not have them yet, tell me when you book and I will help you get sorted.

How long does it take to learn?

It varies from person to person, but most beginners are rolling by the end of the first lesson and notice a real improvement within a few weeks of regular practice.

Where and when do lessons run?

At North Sydney, Meadowbank and Sydney Park (Newtown/Erskineville) skateparks, 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm.
