Skateboarding lesson in progress at a Sydney skatepark

Welcome to One2Flip: Who I Am and How I Teach

I'm Vladimir, a skateboard instructor in Sydney. Here is who I am, where I teach and what a lesson with me is like.

Hello, and welcome to One2Flip. If you have found this page you are probably thinking about skateboard lessons for yourself or for your child, and you want to know who you would be dealing with. So let me introduce myself properly.

My name is Vladimir. I have been skateboarding for 26 years and teaching it for more than 16. One2Flip is my own school, and I am the only instructor: every lesson on this site is taught by me, at the skatepark, on the day you book it. There is no roster of coaches and no call centre. When you send an enquiry, I am the one who reads it and writes back.

After a quarter of a century of skating I still turn up to the park every day looking forward to it, and the thing I enjoy most now is watching someone else’s first push, first drop-in, first ollie. That feeling is the reason this school exists.

Where I teach

I teach at three skateparks across Sydney: North Sydney, Meadowbank, and Sydney Park in Newtown, on the Erskineville side. Each has a different character. North Sydney and Meadowbank are good, quieter options for a first lesson; Sydney Park has a larger bowl area for anyone ready to move on to transitions. When you book, you choose the park that is easiest for you to reach, and I will tell you honestly if I think a different one would suit your level better.

Lessons run seven days a week, from 10am to 6pm, so weekday mornings, after school and weekends are all possible. In the longer summer evenings a session can run a little later, but I never teach after dark. Sydney weather does what it does; if it rains, we simply move the session to another day.

How a lesson with me works

Every lesson is one-on-one, semi-private for two skaters, or a small group that I keep to five at most, because skateboarding is not something you learn by watching a crowd. I look at how you stand on the board before anything else, because most of what follows, from pushing to turning to your first trick, comes from your stance and your balance. Then we build up in steps you can actually feel, and I do not move you on to the next one until the current one is comfortable.

Beginners are welcome, and I mean complete beginners of any age. You do not need your own board; I can bring one for you to use. You do need a helmet, and I ask every student to wear one from the first lesson, whatever their level. If you have no protective gear yet, tell me when you book and I will help you get sorted.

Children are a large part of what I do. I hold a current Working With Children Check, and parents are always welcome to stay and watch. Adults who have never skated, or who skated as teenagers and want to come back to it, are just as welcome, and I teach a good many of them.

Prices, in plain terms

Private lessons are $85 an hour. Semi-private sessions for two skaters are $110 an hour for both of you, which works out at $55 each, and there are packages if you would like to commit to a block of hours. The full list is on the pricing page. Please book at least two days ahead, and give me 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel.

What this News section is for

I will use this page to share notes from the skatepark, tips for beginners and their parents, and guides to the parks where I teach. It is written by me, not by an agency, so it will read the way I talk. If there is a question you would like me to answer here, send it through the contact form and I will do my best.

If you are ready to try a lesson, I would be glad to meet you at the park.
